Solar
Solar energy is a business investment that will increase in value as energy costs rise. Energy Trust of Oregon cash incentives combined with Oregon Business Energy Tax Credits (BETC) and federal tax credits could cover more than 50 percent of project costs.
The Office of Sustainable Development’s Solar Program helps Portland businesses prepare to successfully undertake the installation of a solar energy system. We answer all your solar-related questions, connect you with sources of financial and technical assistance, assist with navigating the City’s permitting process, and provide whatever additional information is necessary for you to choose solar energy for your business.

Solid Waste and Recycling Hotline
All building projects in Portland with a permit value of $50,000 or more (including construction and demolition phases) are required to separate and recycle certain materials from the job site. The general contractor is responsible for ensuring this recycling, including recycling by sub-contractors and for completing a Pre-Construction Recycling Plan Form. The Office of Sustainable Development’s Solid Waste and Recycling Hotline can help answer questions about these requirements.

The City of Portland Water Bureau offers small businesses customized technical assistance for reducing their water usage. Staff can provide answers to specific questions, create a water-use history report, identify potential savings and provide an on-site evaluation of water-using devices based on your specific needs.

Regional Travel Options– Commuter Resources
Metro’s Regional Travel Options program administers CarpoolMatchNW, the rideshare matching service serving commuters in Oregon and SW Washington, markets the Metro VanPool program and promotes the regional Drive Less, Save More campaign. As an incentive to vanpool, Metro pays up to 50 percent of the van lease cost, while Oregon’s Business Energy Tax Credit (BETC) can provide a tax credit up to 35 percent of the cost.
